William "Bill" Carson

Obituary of William "Bill" Frederick Carson

William "Bill" Carson of St. Albert passed away peacefully at home with family on January 25, 2026, at the age of 88.

Bill was a man of faith.

Born in Victoria BC in 1937, Bill spent his childhood mixing school and cadets with work in his father’s garage and in lumber camps. At 17, as he loved to tell it, his mother marched him to the recruiting office and he enlisted in the RCAF, beginning a lifetime of service.

In 1959, while stationed with One Wing in Marville, France, Bill met the young woman who would become the love of his life, Veronica Heather White. She was the daughter of a fellow serviceman, an RCAF (and formerly RAF) member, and base life brought them together. Bill and Veronica were married soon after, beginning a 66-year partnership that took them from France across Canada, finally settling into their first—and last—permanent home (and RV basecamp) outside of St. Albert, Ontario, where they welcomed family and friends for more than 40 years.

Over the course of decades—and postings to nine bases in eight countries, provinces, and territories— Bill, with Veronica’s steady support, built a career marked by his curiosity, adaptability, and a gift for mastering whatever technology came his way. As he told it, he started his military career “straightening out planes whenever pilots bent them.” As technology evolved, his skill set grew: avionics, tubes and HAM radios, antennas and telecommunications, electronic and computers (building his first computer on his basement workbench). For friends and family, he was a dependable mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and IT advisor and fix-it man well into his 80s.

He engaged in stock car racing as a youth, then moved to ice racing, rally and gymkhana. He was an avid aircraft modeler, competing at the national level. He took up golf in retirement. He was also a skilled woodworker and craftsman. He and Veronica enjoyed the fellowship of Good Sam’s, an active RV community group.

Bill was much loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Veronica, daughter Patricia , sons David and Liam (Natalie), grandchildren Darius (Tina), Brendan (Eva), Raven (Brittany), Kaitlyn, and Riley, great-grandchildren Ember, Phoenix, Hannah (Mikayla), Connor, Alina, Elliott, Milo, Finn, Darcy and Oren, and great-great grandson Emerson, brother Jack (the late Roxy, the late Moira) sisters Maureen (John), and Gail (the late Ted), honourary sister Shirley, cousin Lee, brother-in-law Reg (Lynne), feline companion Memphis, and extended family and friends.

Predeceased by parents Frederick Carson, and Patricia Rudd (nee Murphy) and stepfather Fred Rudd, brother Ted, daughter Dr. Linda Carson (Jim), and granddaughter Melanie.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
