It saddens my heart hearing of the passing of Scott. I first met Scott in the late 80s when he was playing drums in a band I was invited to join. A gentle giant is a perfect description for him, he was always the first to move my bass amp when needed and the band affectionately gave him the nickname Bam Bam because of his physical strength. RIP my friend, you will always be remembered.

The first time I ever met Scott I casually mentioned that I was a Pink Floyd fan, he got so excited and wanted me to come listen to my favourite Pink Floyd songs in his truck because of the sound system- I think it might've been new at the time. We sat and listened to probably 4 or 5 Pink Floyd songs. For about a year after that day he refereed to me as "the Pink Floyd girl" which always made me laugh and I took it as a compliment.
My second favourite memory of Scott involves my dog. My dog was not a fan of strangers- The first time he met Scott he instinctively started barking and started to run towards Scott. The second he got close to him, Scott, without any hesitation or fear, bent down at my 70lb dog said "hey buddy" and started petting him and my dog immediately stopped barking and decided then and there that they were going to be friends.
I know he will be deeply missed by all.

I met Scott in my early days of Lear corporation in the mid-nineties and quickly became ,not just work comrades but friends. His impeccable work habits were only trumped by his ability to laugh and make fun out of any conversation.
During our constitutional convention gala , he came over to sit with my wife and I And at one point said " Why don't you have this lovely person up on the dance floor?l. I said, " she's not up to dancing right now". As was Scott's humour , he said " I wasn't talking to you" and grabbed my arm and yanked me up on the dance floor. What an ass lol. But that was Scott.
I will forever miss his uncanny dry wit and his ability to turn any conversation into a belly laugh.
We spoke often , certainly about our work, but on a personal level as well especially family which he adored. I could always count on him when needed.
I'll miss the group chats and the memes that all to often went on and on some times late into the night ( usually a Friday) to the point when someone had to pull the pin, and have the final say. Was usually Scott.
We had a special friend and colleague taken from us to soon and we will miss Scottie terribly.
Rest in peace my friend. Till we meet again

Scott was vibrant when he spoke. I worked with Scott at Lear Corporation for many years, both on the line and as union rep and health and safety. Gone too soon. Rest in Peace Brother Bateman.

I first Scott in 1999 at the Local Union hall in Oshawa. As we had spend time in our various roles and daily lives, it was always a great day, when we would talk and share a smile, a laugh and a connection that we were always on the side of the workers. With the leadership that Scott delivered in his communications, he gained the respect of the employers, membership and leaders alike. He had the candid patience to listen to the concerns, complaints and suggestions in conversation, and ask questions to better understand, and help people naturally find the answers. Scott is one of the very best. I miss him, and knowing that i don't get to talk to him again, breaks me as i am writing this out. I know that he left an impact on everyone who knew him. Miss you Brother

I met Scott when we were paired up at the Co op oil refinery strike. We drove from Regina to Calgary together and I have never or since laughed so much .Instant friends from then on and I will miss him terribly. My condolences to his family and many many other friends. Rest in Peace brother !

I had the opportunity to have known Scott has one of my National rep when he came to Ottawa and I soon realize that this guy had a passion to represent the membership and fight for workers rights day in and day out but the best thing about Scott was he always had time for a quick chat a quick story or a joke and trust me I can go on and on, I realize that Scott was so much more then a Nationla Rep he was such a good friend but most importantly he was my Brother ....I miss our dayli chats R.I.P Brother and thank you for being you ❤️

This is a hard one. First and foremost my sympathies to his family and many friends.
I've known Scott about 47 years now. He was one of my oldest friends. He had a distinct way of making you feel that you were most important. I will miss that.
We shared so many laughs, concerts and dumb shenanigans i Could likely write a book of.
Unfortunately as it often happens families job and life took us away. We weren't inseparable as we once were. However I cherished our occasional chats and was glad to hear of the joys of family and friends.
One of our greatest times was a couple week trip to Daytona. 23 hrs of talking each way and loads of fun.
I long for the day when we meet again. Your chair will not be filled ever!

We have many memories of Scott as our neighbour on Eldorado Avenue, such a great guy and yes he loved Steely Dan. Jim enjoyed ice fishing and all the laughs shared over the fence with the best neighbour ever. We are sending our sincere condolences to his girls and family and friends. As I have said several times this week, we all took with us Whitby Lear DNA, and I will look back on Scott with a smile on my face picturing him and his band rocking out for Lear Open House circa 1989 or so;).
